Santa Ana Winds Blowin' Hot From the North

May 4, Los Angeles - One time through the rotation and the boys in the starting rotation posted an ERA of 1.67 and are on a 5 game roll. They rolled up more double plays (3) than they allowed home runs (2) and Yusmeiro Petit allowed both of those. Opponents hit a light .188 and the 34 strikeouts dwarfed the 7 walks. It was a great run and it has to continue into Dodger Stadium.

The 5 games yielded a 3-2 mark as the offense used a 10-run performance against the Cubs to post a .227/.296/.380., in the 4 Milwaukee games it was .218/.252/.368. It is time to hope and expect more production if recent success of a few can be leaned on:

Chris Snyder  Last 5 games- 6/16, 2 bb, 1 2b, 1 hr, .375/.474/.625

Miguel Montero  Last 5 games- 6/17, 3 bb, 2 hr, .353/.450/.706

Justin Upton  Last 10 games - 13/35, 4 bb, 2 2b, 4 hr, .371/.436/.771

Mark Reynolds  Last 13 games - 14/49, 7 bb, 4 2b, 4 hr, .286/.375/.612

Felipe Lopez  Last 4 games - 7/17, 1 hr, .412/.412/.588...plus all season long.

hello Darron,

I little disappointed in yapping with the guy from Slumdog Millionaire. It must have been more important than the 2-1 ball game you are paid to annouce. Now if you wanted to bring someone up in the booth that had actually had been to a baseball game before that would been another thing.
Gracie was spinning just scrambling to ask questions? Love you guys when you stick the things you know.

Daron,

Is it just me, or is Bob Melvin missing the boat? Last night was a good example. 3-4 times we had a lead off hitter get on base with either Eric Byrnes, or Chris Young hitting next. Both of which are REALLY struggling. Why is Bob letting them swing the bat in that situation. We are wasting outs and not moving the runner. Why is Bob not using the bunt as a tool to manufacture runs?

One should be able to see improvements in a players ability when one of the skills coaches work with them. That's true in the pitching staff but certainly not in the hitting department.

Why is a guy who only achieved a .246 hitting average qualified to coach hitters? Looks to me that he's imparting his limitations on hitters who are naturally better hitters than he was. Now they're worse than he was.

That's been the DBack's Achilles heel the last four years. Hmmm, Schu arrived in 2003. Coincidence? Not hardly.

Gracie should be coaching the hitters.

Daron,
My husband and I really enjoy your game commentary but can you please tell your cohart, Mark Grace, to quit talking like a little Junior High school girl!! What red-blooded American Baseball fan wants to "send their Love" out to one of the non-functioning D-Back players. Come on!! And stick more to the game than tout how wonderful Gracie is.
Your respect for Vin Sculley is admirable. Wish all broadcasts, radio or television could be as exciting or interesting as he is.
Go D-Backs!!

DARON, Would you please stick to the game!
Get rid of Mr Grace and get a professional, he acts like a teenager and it is not becoming, when a grown man can't handle his age.
FYI when a player gets up and you say"he sure is a big guy" well, tell us his stats, please.
PLease give us the game, not all that **** chat about food.
Also, Mr Grace and his "gollee's are pathetic, grown up.

Good morning, Daron!

You and Mark are much appreciated!
Bad night last night; the Hinch/Davis situation.

I realize you both want to keep your jobs; but last night was just another example of what the front office is doing to our team.

Doug did nothing wrong until A.J. got in his face as he was leaving the dugout. It was a sophmoric call by and "inexperienced" manager, and the press all take sides with Hinch. You handled it much better than Matt, but then again, Matt is obviously a company man.

There's an awful lot festering among the players and we don't blame them.

We've been fans since '98. Maybe Jerry was in debt, but the team played with heart, we were family, and we won.

Continued good luck with the broadcasts, but you and I know the real tuth. It's sad. Let's get Gracie to manage and Gonzo in the front office. It's time for another group to take ownership. Any ideas...

Thanks for what you and Gracie do!

Regarding Mark Grace:
Gracie's' on air comment indicating that pitchers should 'bean' batters intentionally in retaliation and that a bench clearing brawl would be good for team moral, qualifies him to manage the beer stand!

After looking at some of the comments I have to say - you may have not watched other markets in Baseball because Gracie and Sutton are both great in the booth. I watch every game I can and believe me, I get irritated with bozo announcers when I'm watching something else. Gracie & Sutton - keep up the good work!!

hi
can you tell me how Conor Jackson is doing I am concerned Valley Fever is serious . please keep us informed on how he is doing
thanks
sharon read

Hi Daron,
I would also like to know how Conor Jackson is doing? We haven't heard much - is he returning soon?

Thanks,
Karen

Our new manager's inexperience, coupled with a failure to consider how young players react to pressure, is what lost the game last night.

Pena has always been hot or cold and has never performed well under pressure. When the next batter gets walked after a base hit, Hinch should know things could only get worse. Right then is the time to pull Pena. Instead, he let's him load the bases and then brings in a young rookie and puts him in the pressure cooker. Really unfair to the kid and could have ruined the kid's confidence for a long time.

That shows me that Hinch has lived on his political ability, not his ability to use common sense. He needs to go. Quickly.

Hey Daron,

Sucks the D-backs aren't playing better this year, but ehy'll be all good in the next 2-5 years.

Thanks to your GM for Felipe Lopez though!! I am very glad to see that he is prospering in Milwaukee. He is a heck of a player here.

Still a mystery to me why AZ would trade him... (then again, the Crew axed Bill Hall (can you blame them when an avg. sits around .195 for most of the season though....?), and seems to be bent on getting rid of one their original young guns- Ricky Weeks, JJ Hardy, or (I'm only relating internet rumors Cory Hart).

Nayways- all that being said, my true passion is college basketball and.... now with J-Clark taking the Milwaukee (Iron?) Arena position, does that mean (knowing that you guys were friends.. not necessarily a package deal though, I would assume) that you will no longer do play-by-play for Panther games??

If so- totally understandably, but that would still totally suck. You were the man- you have a great TV personality (way above average interpersonal skills)- and that is very hard to come by, esp. at the college level.

Furthermore, this year figures to be UWM's best chance to return to the NCAA tournament (or at least upset a Wisconsin or Marquette). Did I just say that? Yep- and I stick by ma story, Sampson.

Eayrs, Franklin, Boyle, Tyler, Meier (not to mention Hill, Roberts, Averkamp, Boga, McCallum, Ajami, Walker, Porte, and Haggerty waiting in the wings)...?

At least you'll watch these Milwaukee Panthers if they happen to chance upon a contest against Arizona State in the NIT Kickoff, no? lol. I'm sure you'll be happy to follow the squad weather your on-air duties are done or not. (I sure hope you return, man).

Take care Daron- you rock. And, although it's been a few seasons since you repped the Crew for us- we will always love you here in Wisconsin like a native son.
